Sweta Singh

Sweta Singh is an Indian journalist and news presenter. She is a news anchor and Executive Editor, Special Programming of Aaj Tak. Shweta Singh is one of the most popular News TV anchors of India. Her popularity doesn't stem only from stunning beauty with which she is endowed with. But, she is also quite good as far as journalism is concerned. She handles variety of issues with ease. She has been a very popular sports anchor. Currently, she is handling political debates in a highly commendable and impartial ways.

Sweta Singh has become the face of Aaj Tak, along with Punya Prasoon Vajpayee and Anjana Om Kashyap.

Early life and education

Shweta Singh was born in Patna on 21st August, 1975. She did her graduation from Mass Communication from Patna University. She was involved in journalism during her college days. In fact, she had worked for The Times of India from Patna. She wanted to become a documentary film maker. However, there was something else in the destiny for her.

Shweta Singh came to Delhi in search of a better opportunity. Here she got a job in Zee News. After few months, she left Zee to join Sahara. Arun Purie noticed her talent and approached her for Aaj Tak. She instantly accepted the offer and since then working for Aaj Tak.

Career

Sweta started her career while still in first year graduation in Patna University. She has several bylines to her name in Times of India, Patna and Hindustan Times, Patna before she switched to electronic media in 1998. She worked for Zee News and Sahara, before joining Aaj Tak in 2002. She is known for her expertise in covering sports related news. Her show Sourav ka Sixer won the award for best sports programme by Sports Journalism Federation of India (SJFI) in 2005. She has also made appearances in some movies(eg. Chakravyuh, etc.) as an Aaj Tak news presenter.

Personal Life


Sweta Singh is married to her long term boyfriend. Her husband doesn’t belong to the field of journalism. The name of her husband is Sanket Kotkar. Sweta Singh is a Bihari, a Bhumihar Brahmin by caste. However, her husband is a Maharashtrian Brahmin. The couple has a daughter and they are living in New Delhi.
